The Categories (In Summary)
Category 1: Marketing & Broadcast
Mission: To tell the world the human story behind the challenge. The mission for teams in this category is to embed with one or more technical teams (from Categories 2, 3, 4, or 5) and tell the world a compelling "reality TV"-style series that captures their journey.
What you’ll build: The core objective is to use this storytelling to build a large, engaged global audience and mobilize them to support the three official Kickstarter campaigns.
What judges look for (high‑level): How authentic and engaging you tell story, the quality of your storytelling, viral & movement design, team partnerships and level of collaboration .
Category 2: Simulation (Web App)
Mission: Build the “digital womb” of PALOMA—the Sprite swarm simulation + analytics that demonstrates healthy, diverse emergent behavior. VR is a plus.
What you’ll build: Interactive web app with real‑time dashboards (from individual Sprite to macro‑culture views), behavior mappings, grouping logic, and genesis Sprite generation.
What judges look for: Audience wow and clarity, depth of analytics, behavior mappings, grouping/genesis quality, UX polish, and (optional) interactive VR.
Category 3: P2P Communication Protocol (GitHub Repo)
Mission: Design the secure, fast, fully decentralized nervous system of the swarm.
What you’ll build: A documented protocol with code that demonstrates decentralization, low latency, robust security, fault tolerance, and easy adoption.
What judges look for: Decentralization first, then performance, security, reliability, adoptability, and code quality.
Category 4: Mobile App (iOS & Android)
Mission: The everyday gateway to PALOMA: beautiful, intuitive, multi‑modal (text/voice/image/video) with protocol integration.
What you’ll build: Functional mobile client with great UX, multi‑model support, and either your own protocol (auto‑enters Cat‑3 scoring) or a seamless integration of someone else’s.
What judges look for: audience love, UX, multi‑modal + multi‑model capability, protocol integration quality, and code completeness.
Category 5: Desktop App (Windows, Mac, Linux)
Mission: The power‑user gateway to PALOMA on desktop: beautiful, intuitive, multi‑modal (text/voice/image/video) with protocol integration.
What you’ll build: Functional desktop client for Windows, Mac, and Linux with great UX, multi‑model support, and either your own protocol (auto‑enters Cat‑3 scoring) or a seamless integration of someone else’s.
What judges look for: Audience love, desktop‑native UX, multi‑modal + multi‑model capability, protocol integration quality, and code completeness.
The Extras & The Rules

How the money works:

Main Categories (1–5): Each winner receives monthly distributions from PALOMA’s subscription revenues until their cumulative total reaches AUD$1,000,000.
These are not lump‑sum prizes; they are profit‑share payments contingent on PALOMA being profitable (i.e., revenue minus operating costs and taxes). Reporting is transparent, and distributions are made monthly while profit exists.

Audience Choice: If the audience winner differs from the judges’ winner, each member of the audience‑choice team receives a Prime NFT.

Taxes: Winners are responsible for any applicable taxes.
Crystal‑clear condition: If PALOMA does not generate net subscription profit in a given month, the main category payout for that month may be $0. Payments resume once there is profit again and continue until the winner’s total reaches AUD$1,000,000.

FAQs
Can we enter more than one category?
Yes—many teams will, and cross‑team collaboration is encouraged.
How big should our team be?
Minimum 3, no maximum. Balance speed vs. dilution, the “Growth Dilemma” is part of the fun.
What happens to our code/IP?
You keep 100% ownership, license under CC-BY‑NC‑SA 4.0 so others can learn and build with you (non‑commercially). To commercialize inside PALOMA, you partner with PALOMA per the NC clause.
What exactly do we submit?
A public GitHub repo with README plus a 5‑minute demo video. These are mandatory for shortlisting and can be used in the Showdown and campaigns.
What’s the “Merger Option”?
After shortlisting, the three finalist teams may secretly decide to consolidate into one team (auto‑win) or compete separately live on stage. The reveal happens in the Showdown.
How are awards paid?
For the five main categories, monthly distributions from PALOMA’s subscription revenues continue until each winner reaches AUD$1,000,000 (contingent on platform success; transparent reporting). All awards are in Australian dollars.
Is there an audience award?
Yes. If the audience’s top vote differs from the judges’ winner, those teammates receive Prime NFTs.
